Paulette Guajardo wins mayoral runoff against Joe McComb

Corpus Christ voters, without doubt, want change – putting into the mayoral office a veteran council member who will take on what she has said will be a re-envisioned role in the community and at the dais. Paulette Guajardo – a two-term city councilwoman at-large – succeeded as challenger to incumbent Mayor Joe McComb with 56 percent voter support in the runoff race Tuesday, following an intense campaign season that initially included nine candidates. “I am going to turn this position into what it should be,” she told the Caller-Times shortly after early voting returns rolled in Tuesday night. “And that’s 100 percent dedication … when that happens, I believe the rest is going to fall into place, she said. Now I may not be able to achieve everything in two years, obviously, but we re going to get things going. We re going to move things forward.”
