Nueces Country Record Star
The Port of Corpus Christi’s newest Commissioner, Rajan Ahuja, was sworn in on Friday, Feb. 26.
Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales administered the Oath of Office for Ahuja, who replaces Al Jones on the Port Commission.
“Port Staff welcomes Commissioner Ahuja for his insightful perspective on the oil and gas industry, as well as his strong philanthropic ties to the South Texas Coastal Bend,” said Sean Strawbridge, Chief Executive Officer for the Port of Corpus Christi. “As the largest gateway for energy exports from the United States, Mr. Ahuja’s over two decades of experience in leadership roles in the oil and gas sector will serve the Port of Corpus Christi well, thereby continuing our commitment to creating value for our customers and community stakeholders.”
The question of who has the power to establish a committee to come up with plans for a rebuilt Bob Hall Pier led to a heated debate at the Nueces County Commissioners Court Meeting.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â Bob Hall Pier has been closed off to the public for about seven months, but the Nueces County Commissioners Court says theyâre determined to open it with or without FEMAâs financial help.
On Wednesday the Nueces County Commissionerâs Court is set to discuss whether to ask FEMA again for funds to reconstruct Bob Hall Pier after they were initially denied.
Nueces County Commissioner Brent Chesney says the county submitted the damage estimates and the estimates to demolish and rebuild the pier.
Corpus Christ voters, without doubt, want change – putting into the mayoral office a veteran council member who will take on what she has said will be a re-envisioned role in the community and at the dais.
Paulette Guajardo – a two-term city councilwoman at-large – succeeded as challenger to incumbent Mayor Joe McComb with 56 percent voter support in the runoff race Tuesday, following an intense campaign season that initially included nine candidates.
“I am going to turn this position into what it should be,” she told the Caller-Times shortly after early voting returns rolled in Tuesday night.
“And that’s 100 percent dedication … when that happens, I believe the rest is going to fall into place, she said. Now I may not be able to achieve everything in two years, obviously, but we re going to get things going. We re going to move things forward.”
