WhatsApp has explained in an FAQ page on its website what will happen if users do not accept its updated privacy policy by May 15. The messaging app has clearly said that the WhatsApp account of users will not be deleted after this date, though the functionalities will be limited. WhatsApp announced an update to its privacy policy in January and forced users to accept it by February 8. Supreme Court has issued notice to Facebook and WhatsApp over their privacy policy. The apex court said that people s privacy must be protected in view of allegations that users data is being shared with companies.
The SC said that Indian citizens have grave apprehensions regarding the privacy policy introduced by WhatsApp. The court sought a response from the central government, Facebook and WhatApp in a plea regarding the policy.
The Supreme Court today told social media firm Facebook and its messaging app, WhatsApp, that it will have to intervene to protect people's privacy in the wake of the latter's new policy in this regard. Issuing a notice to the Centre, along with the two platforms, the court is now set examine the popular service's fresh course on this front.
