(Photo: Prasit Tangprasert) NAKHON RATCHASIMA: This northeastern province reported its first Covid-19 fatality on Friday, a hotel employee in Pak Chong district. Nakhon Ratchasima governor Wichian Chantaranothai said the victim was an obese 35-year-old employee of Pool Villa Resort hotel. The man, who weighed 140 kilogrammes, was diagnosed with the disease on April 14 and admitted to a local hospital, and referred to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital on April 15. The governor said the man was highly vulnerable to the virus because of his weight. Medical personnel tried their best to save him, but he died on Thursday evening.

CCSA spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin said on Thursday that Cluster 1 had 47 cases  - people who attended a birthday party in Pak Chong district. Within the cluster, a group of friends who visited Yaowarat area in Bangkok tested positive for Covid-19 first.

Pol Capt Arthit Poontaisong, deputy inspector of Mu Si police, said the incident occurred at 7.50am in front of the Jungle House Khaoyai resort near Thanarat Road in Pak Chong district. Police said the body of Rachan Theerapittayatrakul, 55, a sanitation technical officer for the Nakhon Ratchasima City Municipality, had suffered multiple fractures and was found near a female elephant known locally as Cherry.

Traffic jams were reported at several sections of the gateway to the Northeast at around 9.30am on Saturday, the first day of the Songkran holiday. In Pak Chong district, highway police opened more lanes to ease the flow at three locations in tambon Klang Dong from kilometre markers 17-42, 47-51 and 161-163 where vehicles were moving at a snail’s pace.
