Artistic Milliners intends to set up 62MW hydropower plant

KARACHI: Artistic Milliners, one of leading denim fabric and garment manufacturing companies in Pakistan, planned an estimated $236 million of investment to set up a hydropower project with 62.6 megawatts production capacity, it was learnt on Saturday.
Artistic Hydo-I Private Limited approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority seeking generation licence for its 62.6MW hydropower plant to be setup in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with an estimated cost of $236 million.
The primary sponsor financing the project is Artistic Milliners (Private) Limited. Artistic Milliners is engaged in the manufacturing and trading of denim, garments and fabrics being completely export oriented. The company has a total assets of over Rs55 billion with an annual turnover of over Rs38 billion.
CM wants work on Balakot power project launched in March

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has directed Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (Pedo) authorities to make arrangements for the ground-breaking of 300mw Balakot hydropower project by March.
Presiding over the sixth Policy Board meeting of Pedo, the chief minister said that Prime Minister Imran Khan might himself perform the ground-breaking of the project.
Besides Adviser to Chief Minister on Energy and Power Himyataullah Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir, Secretary Energy Muhammad Zubair, chief executive officer of Pedo and other officials concerned attended the meeting, according to a handout.

BESHAM: The Shangla National Jirga on Wednesday threatened to launch a protest movement if the government did not provide electricity to the Shangla district from Karora Hydropower project forthwith.
Speaking at the jirga, Nawaz Mahmood Khan and Sadidur Rahman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Muhammad Rishad and Intikhab Alam Khan of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Azam Khan and Mutawakil Khan of the Awami National Party, Zaidullah Khan of the Pakistan People’s Party, Dr Sajjad Khan and Shah Saud advocate of Qaumi Watan Party, Immad Ahmad and Muhammad Tayyab Khan of Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam, Muhamamd Naeem Khan, Nisar Ahmad, Sarfaraz Khan and others said that Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (Pedo) was applying delaying tactics to provide electricity to Shangla from the Karora Hydropower project.
Energy dept to announce 40 internships annually

PESHAWAR: Adviser to Chief Minister on Energy and Power Himayatullah Khan said the Energy and Power department would announce 40 internships for engineers and diploma holders annually in accordance with the internship policy of the provincial government.
According to an official handout, he was presiding over a meeting to review the internship policy.
Human Resource Manager Pakht-unkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) Shahid Khan and others attended the meeting.
He said the internships were aimed at imparting skills to the youth in hydropower projects. The internships will be provided in various hydropower projects of Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization under the energy and power department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he added. The adviser directed the officials to ensure the advertisement about the internship on PMRU’s online portal.
PESHAWAR: Though the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is in power in both the centre and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the provincial government isn’t happy with the federal government due to the non-fulfilment.
