Buckland voters asked to retroactively approve debt exclusion in Tuesday election

BUCKLAND Although there are no contested races on the ballot for the annual town election on Tuesday, voters will be asked to retroactively approve by ballot a debt exclusion approved at the 2018 Annual Town Meeting.
Town Administrator Heather Butler explained that in 2018, Annual Town Meeting voters approved an article to borrow $230,000 for improvements to the Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School. The vote, however, was contingent upon passing a debt exclusion, which means the town could borrow the money but wouldn’t have to make annual payments within the restrictions of Proposition 2½.

SHELBURNE FALLS Hayley Gilmore, assistant principal of Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School, will begin her transition this month into the role of principal.
Gilmore will fill the shoes of Principal Joanne Giguere, who announced her retirement in November, according to Mohawk Trail Regional School District Communications Director Carla Potts. Giguere who has served the district for 19 years and Gilmore will co-principal through February, until Gilmore assumes the role on March 1.
According to Potts, Gilmore was one of six candidates from the original applicant pool to be interviewed during the principal search, which began after Giguere announced her plans to retire. From there, she was selected as one of two finalists.

SHELBURNE FALLS The village is looking a little more festive now, thanks to the addition of decorative candy canes crafted by students of Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School.
