KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 19: The celebration of the International Mother Language Day is an apt occasion to remind all that mother language is a bearer of respective cultural heritage, Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Dr. A.K Abdul Momen said.
Speaking at the International Mother Language Day 2021 held virtually on Thursday, Abdul Momen said this also include the promotion of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.
“A cross border multilingual programme on this auspicious occasion of International Mother Language Day 2021 will work as a bridge of language and cultural connectivity among the South and South East Asian countries,” he said.

Myanmar agreed to calls by Bangladesh at a tripartite meeting facilitated by China to start the much-awaited repatriation of Rohingya in the second quarter of this year, officials said Tuesday.
Bangladesh pushed hard to begin the repatriation, but Myanmar again delayed it, seeking time for logistical arrangements.

Bangladesh on Thursday received 2 million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca s Covid-19 vaccine as a gift from India, the Foreign Ministry said.
Indian High Commissioner Vikram K Doraiswami handed over the vaccines to Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Health Minister Zahid Maleque at a ceremony in the capital Dhaka.
The vaccine, known as Covishield in India, is being mass produced by the Serum Institute of India.
In virtual discussions, a Chinese diplomat doesn t use the name Rohingya in apparent deference to Myanmar, which refuses to acknowledge the displaced group s ethnic identity.
