AWD method saves 30pc irrigation water in Boro cultivation 730 By Engr Mamun Islam RANGPUR, Jan 15, 2021 (BSS) – Expanded adoption of Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) irrigation method during Boro rice farming can save minimum 30 percent irrigation water along with considerably increasing rice output. Talking to BSS, Agriculturist Dr. Md. Abdul Mazid, who got Independence Award 2018 Medal (food security category), said adoption of the simplest and lowest cost technology also helps farmers to adapt to scarcity of irrigation water. “Adoption of AWD technology with proper agronomic management reduces five numbers of irrigation saving 30 percent water, 30 litres diesel and electricity for irrigation to produce 500 kg more Boro paddy per hectare of land,” he said.

rice exporters: Bangladesh reduces import duty on rice to 25%

Synopsis This will pave the way for Indian rice exporters, particularly from West Bengal, to export non-basmati rice to the country and fetch better prices for the grain. Agencies Bangladesh is expected to import about 500,000 tonnes of non-basmati rice in this financial year, said Vinod Kaul, executive director, All India Rice Exporters Association. Kolkata: The New Year is all set to bring in good news for India’s rice exporters as Bangladesh has reduced import duty on rice to 25% from 62.5%. This will pave the way for Indian rice exporters, particularly from West Bengal, to export non-basmati rice to the country and fetch better prices for the grain.
