Limiting Trans Fat in Foods Bangladesh can follow Indian policy: Experts Staff Correspondent 19th February, 2021 10:42:21 Experts have said Bangladesh could follow Indian policy to limit the use of trans fat in foods, oils and PHO (Partially Hydrogenated Oils).  Neighbouring country India has already unveiled regulations on limiting trans fats in food, said a press release from Progga. “Food products in which edible oils and fats are used as an ingredient shall not contain industrial trans fatty acids more than 2 percent by mass of the total oils/fats present in the product from January 1, 2022,” according to the revised regulation of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

The incumbent government is working to ensure food safety for the people of the country. Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar came up with the statement while briefing reporters at the Expatriate Welfare Bhaban in the capital on Wednesday. The monitoring system for ensuring safe food for the consumers has also been re-enforced by establishing district office of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) in every district, he added. To ensure food safety, the minister said there is no alternative of raising overall capacity of the BSFA, adding that so, the BFSA have to enhance their manpower expertise, their technical knowhow, training and institutional capacity.
