Ferry services on the key Paturia-Daulatdia route in Manikganj resumed this morning after 10 hours of disruption due to dense fog
The ferry service resumed around 10:00 am when fog started to clear, said Zillur Rahman, deputy general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha office.
Earlier, authorities suspended the service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route 11:45 pm yesterday to avoid accidents as the ferry s marking lights became dim as the fog thickened.
Besides, five ferries carrying passengers and vehicles also got stuck in the middle of the river following the suspension of ferry services.

Normal life came to a near standstill due to the bone-chilling cold coupled with dense fog which also disrupted ferry services and vehicular movement.
Several hundred vehicles had to wait on both sides of the Padma yesterday to cross the river as ferry services were suspended on two major routes Paturia to Daulatdia and Shimulia to Banglabazar for hours.

The cold wave coupled with dense fog sweeping across the country is severely disrupting all modes of communications, including waterways and highways, causing untold sufferings for thousands of passengers and transport workers.
Hundreds of motor vehicles, mostly passenger buses and private cars, have got stranded at Daulatdia-Paturia and Shimulia-Banglabazar ferry ghats, major river channels in the country.
The vehicles have been waiting on both sides of the ferry ghats for hours to cross the river Padma as dense fog is badly disrupting the ferry movement on both the river channels.
