When will road accidents be brought under control?

During a recent press conference held at Jatiya Press Club, Nirapad Sarak Chai revealed that according to their findings, nearly 5,000 people were killed and 5,058 were injured in 4,092 different types of accidents last year, including rail and riverine incidents. Even though there was a steady decrease in the number of road crashes largely due to pandemic-induced restrictions on public transport, motorcycle accidents witnessed a hike in 2020 compared to the previous year.
Among all the vehicles responsible for accidents, the highest 1,127 were motorcycles while 698 were buses, 931 were trucks and 410 were cars and jeeps, and the rest are other types of vehicles. Although the number of road crashes have somewhat decreased, largely due to pandemic-induced restrictions on public transport, motorcycle accidents witnessed a sharp rise in 2020 compared to the previous year.
At least 4,969 people were killed and 5,058 were injured in 4,092 different types of accidents last year, according to road safety campaign Nirapad Sarak Chai. People killed in rail and riverine incidents were also included here.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the smart cards for driving licences will be issued in phases from February. I know there are a lot of applications waiting, Quader said adding, the long wait for applicants for the smart cards is coming to an end. We hope that the work of issuing driving licences will start in phases from February, Quader said while addressing a videoconference with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).

DHAKA, Jan 2, 2021 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today called upon BNP to return to the positive trend of politics in the New Year.
He was speaking at a view-exchange with official of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) through videoconferencing from his official residence here.
