The number of broadband internet connections has skyrocketed since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic thanks to the inclusion of rural areas under the service amid the ongoing health crisis which prompted affordable and faster internet consumption across the country.
The internet connections through broadband jumped 50 per cent year-on-year in November to reach 8.6 million, according to data from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The number of connections witnessed a leap in March, when Bangladesh first reported its first coronavirus infection, as it added over 23 lakh new subscribers in one month.
Nagad joins forces with GP to drive digital financial inclusion

DHAKA, Dec 16, 2020 (BSS) – Nagad, the digital financial service of Bangladesh Post Office, has officially started the process to bring the users of Grameenphone Limited under this state-of-the-art innovation.
The initiative will enable the 7.6 crore Grameenphone users to efficiently avail the services of Nagad, said a press release today.
To this end, an agreement was signed between Nagad and Grameenphone Limited in this regard recently.
Under the deal, Grameenphone customers can become the clients of Nagad by opening an account dialling 167# from their mobile phone and setting the PIN. For the last few months, Grameenphone customers have been availing this innovative service on a trial basis.

Shahed said the previous loan issue has already been settled.
Nagad teams up with GP to beef up client base

Nagad, a mobile financial service (MFS) provider, has teamed up with Grameenphone to offer scope to 7.8 crore subscribers of the telecom operator to open accounts easily for mobile money transfers.
Under the arrangement, subscribers of Grameenphone will be able to open MFS accounts with Nagad by allowing the operator to share four types of information national identity card number, name, date of birth and current address, Nagad said.
Nagad and Grameenphone launched the service yesterday at a virtual event where the MFS operator said it will verify the customers information that is already registered with the mobile operator and then will crosscheck it with the database of the Election Commission.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notice yesterday announcing the appointment for a three-year term and providing the same rank and benefits as of a senior secretary.
