BEZA gets $27.07b investment proposals

DHAKA, March 16, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) has, so far, received investment proposals amounting to around US$27.07 billion from local and foreign business entities, thanks to various steps of the government to attract new investments.
The proposed investments may create over 10 lakh job opportunities in the country.
Out of the total amount, around $23.97 billion investment proposals have come for the government EZs while $3.1 billion for private EZs.
Of those, around $1.62 billion proposals have been come as foreign direct investment (FDI) from different companies of China, India, the UK, the USA, the Netherlands, Japan, Singapore, Australia, South Korea, Malaysia and Germany.

(BEZA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) today signed an
agreement for “Preparatory Survey on Ocean Front Economic Zone Development in
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN)” at a hotel in the city.
On the occasion, BEZA and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters
Association (BGMEA) also inked land lease agreement for setting up a
specialized garments park with 41 business entities.

function as the chief guest while Executive Chairman of BEZA Paban Chowdhury,

Our target is to complete the implementation work within 14 months, he added.
According to Rahman, the company will fund 30 per cent of the project through equity while the remaining 70 per cent will be financed by local banks. The project will create around 2,500 opportunities for direct employment.
Beza Executive Chairman Paban Chowdhury appreciated the initiative saying it would help diversify the country s exports. Bangladesh needs to promote such initiatives, he said, adding that Beza will examine the proposal before allotting any land as needed.
The domestic demand for glassware is around 1.3 crore pieces per month, or roughly Tk 140 crore, industry insiders say.
