New Delhi [India], February 19 (ANI): A heated argument took place in the meeting of the Parliamentary standing committee on defence over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi s questions related to defence and procurement on Thursday. Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and other senior officers of the Ministry of Defence were present in the meeting. Rahul Gandhi has attended the meeting in the third session and asked several questions related to defence but the chairman of the standing committee intervened and asked him to discuss his questions in a separate meeting which will be called after a few days, sources, who were presented in the meeting, told ANI.

New Delhi, Feb 17 : A Parliamentary Standing Committee on Wednesday analysed budgetary allocation and expenditure of Ministry of Defence, which has been allocated Rs 4,78,196 crore in the Budget 2021-2022.
Expenditure on salaries of armed forces and civilians, modernisation of armed forces, production establishments, maintenance, and research and development organisations were the major issues of the meeting.
The 31-member Committee that includes 21 parliamentarians from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha also discussed issues of large pension expenditure, lower capital outlay, and high import dependence for defence procurement.
New ECHS polyclinic building opened

A new building for the Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinic at Painavu in Idukki district was commissioned on Sunday by Vice Admiral A.K. Chawla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command.
The building was constructed by the PWD at a cost of ₹1.15 crore. Over 2,000 ex-servicemen are dependent on the polyclinic.
The inaugural function was attended, among others, by Roshy Augustine, MLA, and senior officers of the Indian Navy and the district administration, according to a communication.

Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i is committed to achieving universal health coverage for citizens of Kaduna State as part of his drive for human capital development.
The Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe disclosed this at the flagging off of the identification and enrolment exercise for the commencement of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) program in Kaduna State on Monday.
Dr Balarabe promised that the first set of 40,000 beneficiaries within the target groups of children under five years, pregnant women, the elderly, people living with disabilities, will be identified and enrolled at no cost to them.
