Theatre Communications Group has announced the 2021 TCG 60th Anniversary Gala: Our Stories will be held virtually on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 7:30pm ET with an afterparty to follow. The Gala will honor Ricardo Khan and the Performing Arts Alliance, and both the Gala and virtual live afterparty will be hosted by drag superstar Shequida. Dr. Michelle Ramos, the board chair of PAA and Vision Keeper of Alternate ROOTS, will offer remarks on behalf of PAA. Broadway-bound ‘Shout Sister Shout’ musical inspired by Sister Rosetta Tharpe finds creative team

A new musical about Sister Rosetta Tharpe will receive its Broadway premiere after performances in California and Seattle. Titled
Shout Sister Shout after one of Tharpe’s songs, the bio-musical will open on Broadway at a date to be confirmed, after being developed by an unnamed regional theatre.

“He had this ability to look at somebody, walk up to them and give them accolades, and make them feel special. Then they just trusted him,” explained George Martin, Watterson’s husband of 42 years.

The LA Stage Alliance, a 46-year-old non-profit organization that runs the Ovation Awards for local theatre companies, has shut down following backlash after actress Jully Lee was misidentified in a photo and had her name mispronounced during the awards show.
More than 25 different local theater companies in Los Angeles, including the Pasadena Playhouse and the Geffen Playhouse, withdrew their membership after the Ovation Awards on March 30 had multiple representation errors during the awards show.
