Together with the Czech arms group Omnipol, a new Hungarian partner could soon acquire Aero Vodochody, the largest military airplane manufacturer in the Czech Republic, the business daily Hospodářské noviny reports.
Financier Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, a person close to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, is entering the operation together with Omnipol, the newspaper said. Aero Vodochody’s current owner, the Czech-Slovak Penta group, declined to comment.
Aero Vodochody was established just months after the foundation of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918. It has produced over 11,000 aircraft and now provides deliveries and service support to customers in 60 countries.

Slovenian premier Janez Janša, whose country is set to take over the rotating EU Council Presidency, has admitted that the EU needs a “relaunch”.
Speaking at a news conference, the prime minister also conceded that the EU needs “greater resilience” to tackle emergencies such as the ongoing health pandemic, saying there were areas of its response that were “not up to scratch.”
A Slovene presidency priority, he revealed, will be to set up an EU Institute for Constitutional Law to crack down on breaches of the rule of law.
Tusványos Summer University Canceled Again
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Tusványos Summer University won’t be organized this year at Tusnádfürdő (Baile Tusnad), organizers announced on Facebook. This is the second time in a row that the event, which traditionally features a keynote address by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, has been canceled.
“We all hoped that this July would not be without Tusványos. But our health and safety is more important than anything else, so sadly we had to make the decision that in 2021 Tusnádfürdő won’t be hearing from us,” the organizers wrote on social media.
