Rebellion Pizza to bring artisanal pies to Anthem

Early word on more changes headed to Anthem Village brings a new restaurant that will combine a full-service pizzeria with some downtown Las Vegas energy and inspiration. Rebellion Pizza is moving into 2540 Anthem Village Drive, a couple of doors down from laid-back newcomer Uncork, a proposed upscale wine lounge that began seeking construction approvals last month. Already hiring and promising a future menu of “artisanal pizza, wings, appetizers, salads, sandwiches, pasta, wine, and local craft beer,” Ryan Perras and Ricky Lewis are listed as managing members behind the restaurant. Both are well prepared for the new venture. LAS VEGAS – Tami Paynter planned to park her way to retirement. But the Las Vegas valet driver of 34 years is no longer sure her plan will pan out. Now age 60, Paynter was laid off a year ago from her union job at the Plaza Hotel & Casino. Her contract allows her rehiring until July 31, but the call has not come.  If she is called back, her pay, benefits and seniority will restore to what they were before the layoff. If not, she will be terminated and left to find work elsewhere. News headlines have heralded the restart of Nevada s economic engine in Las Vegas, but frontline service workers like Paynter have yet to see progress in their own lives. Many are struggling.

Hotel Workers Are Worried About Jobs, Working Conditions in Pandemic

Unite Here Hotel employees are worried about working conditions amid the pandemic. Many say their jobs have gotten harder because of lower staffing levels. Others have yet to return to work after being laid off last spring. A year into the pandemic, workers in the battered hospitality industry know tourists are returning, and they re worried. Some are worried about dangerous working conditions. Some are worried about an increased workload and reduced staffing. And some are worried the jobs they rely on aren t coming back. The American Hotel & Lodging Association reported that about 3.5 million leisure and hospitality jobs about 20% of total jobs in the sector disappeared during the pandemic and have not yet returned.
