He was sentenced to five year’s imprisonment, to be served concurrently, under three sections of Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Act, for running a dispensary in Kot Lakhpat in the country’s Punjab province, to raise funds for financing terrorism.

The Punjab government and Bank of Punjab administration have been informed about the development, The News learnt exclusively here on Tuesday. Ministry of Foreign Affairs approved the application of Lakhvi and issued the statutory notification (SRO) on December 23, 2020. A copy of the SRO is also available with this correspondent.

The LeT terrorist has been arrested in connection with a terrorism financing case registered by the Punjab Counter Terror Department at Lahore police station. He was allegedly running a dispensary using funds collected for terrorism financing. Lakhvi, the operations commander of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, was designated as a global terrorist by the UN under the United Nations Security Council Resolution in 2008 after the Mumbai attacks.
