LAHORE: PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz on Saturday hinted at the chance that the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) long march, planned for the next month to supposedly oust the Imran Khan government, may not be held after all.
“There is a possibility that the long march may not be needed,” said the PML-N leader in reply to a question whether the PDM’s long march would end before moving beyond the PML-N’s bastion of Gujranwala.

GUJRAT: Prime Minister Imran Khan has tasked Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi with playing a pivotal role in clinching maximum seats in the Senate from Punjab.
The senior PML-Q leader is part of a three-member committee of the ruling coalition in the province. Its other members are Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and Governor Chaudhry Sarwar. The committee will devise a joint strategy for the success of the coalition’s nominees in the Senate election due to be held in March.
The decision was taken in a meeting between the delegations of both coalition partners in Islamabad on Monday that was chaired by Prime Minister Khan. The PML-Q delegation comprised Mr Elahi, federal minister Tariq Basheer Cheema and MNA Moonis Elahi, while federal ministers Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pervaiz Khattak and Shafqat Mehmood assisted the prime minister in the meeting.
LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has come hard on the provincial government, saying that in the last four decades, the law and order has never been as bad as it is now.
Presiding over the assembly session on Monday where the law and order came under discussion after Ahmad Shah Khaga, a Treasury member, narrated the tale of robbery at his home.
Mr Elahi embarrassed the government when he told the law minister: “The dacoits are on the rampage throughout Punjab. Neither arrested, nor punished, they are enjoying a field day. Where should a common man go? Call all regional (RPOs) and district (DPOs) police officers on a daily basis, seek reports, hold meetings, monitor their performance and improve situation.”

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has closed 20-year old last two inquiries against the Chaudhrys of Gujrat for want of evidence.
The NAB told the Lahore High Court on Wednesday that two last inquiries pending for 20 years against PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, MNA Moonis Elahi and their family members had been closed because of ‘lack of evidence’.
Recently, the NAB had closed inquiries against former premier Nawaz Sharif in the Lahore Development Authority plots allotment, Raiwind land expansion against Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif and the purchase of locomotives against former railways minister Khwaja Saad Rafique on similar grounds.
