LAHORE: Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz filed his second petition Tuesday before the Lahore High Court for post-arrest bail in money-laundering and assets beyond means reference.
The petition filed through advocate Amjad Parvez stated that Hamza was arrested on June 11, 2019 while the reference was filed on August 20, 2020 whereas the charges were framed on November 11, 2020 after a delay of 17 months.
It said the delay could not be attributed to the petitioner in any manner whatsoever.
It argued that the petitioner is entitled to bail on this ground of delay alone without touching the merits of the case.
Argues that it is no longer a secret that NAB is being used for political engineering

Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz on Tuesday approached the Lahore High Court seeking post-arrest bail in an inquiry which National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had initiated under allegations of money laundering and assets beyond of income.
In his plea, Hamza has contended that in order to deter the opposition from criticizing its performance, the incumbent government thought it appropriate to implicate the petitioner and his family in false criminal cases and for this purpose NAB was selected.
He argued that it is no more secrete that NAB is being used as a tool for political engineering and has also since been noticed by the superior courts including the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member and Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz on Tuesday has filed a bail plea in Lahore High Court (LHC) in assets case.
According to details, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal and director general have been made parties in the petition.
The PML-N leader has adopted the stance that the reference was filed 14 months after his arrest. Putting any accused in jail for long time is equivalent to sentencing him before the trial, he added.
