A garment manufacturing unit owner, accused of stealing power, was slapped with a fine of Rs 27 lakh by the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), said officials on Wednesday.
An enforcement team detected the theft in Mahavir Jain Colony of Focal Point in Ludhiana, they said.

The consumer had allegedly connected heavy load of 45 kilowatt through a 20-metre power cable directly from the distribution transformer, they said.

The police have registered a case based on the complaint of Narinder Singh of Janakpuri area, who retired from the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) as a junior engineer in 2017.
The complainant stated that he had invested in some insurance policies earlier, which were to mature in 2014. Same year, he started receiving calls from different numbers from the accused, who claimed to be from an insurance company. The accused suggested that he invest in a policy, which would him get triple the invested amount. Finally, he agreed and invested Rs 7.68 lakh in the hope of getting Rs 19.76 lakh in 2016.

PATIALA: The financial survival of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) hinges on the payment of complete subsidy in the current financial year and the clearance of dues by the defaulting government departments.
A huge power subsidy shortfall of more than Rs 5,500 crore till January 31 has left the PSPCL worried, as the figure will jump by the end of financial year 2020-21 and the state government will not clear the subsidy arrears by then, probably. Even the last fiscal, it didn’t clear these arrears worth Rs 5,779 crores. Now, the payable subsidy for the current fiscal is Rs 16,400 crore, of which Rs 10,621 crore is for the year 2020-21.
