HC reserves judgmenton Peddireddi’s plea Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA The High Court reserved its judgment on the petition filed by Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy against the State Election Commission’s order that he should not speak to the media till February 21. A division bench of the court, led by Chief Justice Arup Kumar Goswami and Justice C. Praveen Kumar, heard the arguments on both sides on Tuesday and reserved their verdict following an undertaking given on behalf of the Minister that he would not make inciteful remarks against the SEC. It may be noted that the High Court dismissed the SEC order for confining Mr. Ramachandra Reddy to his residence till February 21 for vitiating the gram panchayat elections by allegedly threatening the District Collectors and other officials on election duty and making objectionable comments in the media.

Ramesh Kumar’s order that Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy should be confined to his residence till February 21 to prevent him from vitiating the process of Gram Panchayat (GP) elections, was struck down by the High Court on Sunday. However, the court barred the Minister from interacting with the media till the above date. Justice D.V.S.S. Somayajulu delivered the verdict after hearing the arguments on a house motion petition filed by Mr. Ramachandra Reddy Saturday evening against the SEC’s order to the Director General of Police, which was for restricting the Minister’s movements till February 21, when the last phase of the panchayat elections are scheduled to be held.

AP Govt Increases Incentive For Unanimous Elections Jan 27, 2021, 10:31 IST Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Government has increased financial incentives to the Gram Panchayats where elections would be unanimously and appealed all stakeholders to strive for unanimous elections as they are being held on non party basis to preserve peace and harmony in the villages. Addressing media here on Tuesday, Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy said the state government has released G.O Rt no. 34, increasing the financial incentives to Gram Panchayats where elections would be unanimous. As the GP elections are being held on non party basis it would be prudent to encourage unanimous elections  so that the political interference would be reduced, violence would be decreased and peace and harmony would exist in the villages.
