BILLINGS â A new movie is about to start shooting in and around the Billings area. Itâs called Supercell and itâs all about a son following in his fatherâs footsteps as a storm chaser.
The last major motion picture to film in Billings was the critically acclaimed movie Nebraska back in 2012. Other great movies have called southern Montana home including Robert Redfordâs A River Runs Through It
and Ron Howardâs Far and Away . And in every Montana film, the landscape seems to play a crucial role.

A look at a man who wrote about Montana, a proposed documentary about a Miles City high school trainer prosecuted for molesting boys, a look at veteran suicide, a film that will use authentic Blackfeet and Shoshone languages and a television series about a ranching family in the Treasure State are among 14 film productions that will share $500,000 in film grants from the Montana Film Office.
Recipients of the Big Sky Film Grant were announced recently by the Montana Department of Commerce. The productions are to film at locations across Montana.

MONTANA – Filmed on-location in Montana, the true-life crime thriller “Ted K” recently premiered at Berlinale, one of the top film festivals in the world.
The film was largely shot in and around Lincoln, Montana, where producers held a local casting call when filming began in 2018. Film production infused more than $150,000 in wages and another $63,000 in local lodging revenue to the community.
“Filming movies, television shows and commercials in Montana elevates awareness about our state and brings outside dollars into our local businesses, hotels, and communities,” Montana Film Commissioner Allison Whitmer said.
