Air Force s Thunderbirds air show on in 2021 at Pease in Portsmouth NH

PORTSMOUTH The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds are returning to the skies of the Seacoast for an air show and open house at the Pease Air National Guard Base on Sept. 11 and 12. Described as “America’s ambassadors in blue,” the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds, features six F-16C Fighting Falcons. The Thunderbirds last visited Pease in September 2011. The 157th Air Refueling Wing based at the Portsmouth International Airport at Pease will host the 2021 air show, which is free and open to the public. The gates each day at the base will open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.

The U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds, will debut their redesigned aerial demonstration, to include an updated ground show performance, at the Cocoa Beach Air Show, Florida on April 17 and 18. Last year, the Thunderbirds were able to focus on and fully commit to enhancing their aerial demonstration and ground show after most of their 2020 show season air shows were canceled due to the spread of the coronavirus. “We are very excited about the changes we have made to our show and ground performance,” said Col. John Caldwell, Thunderbirds commander and leader. “One of our main goals was to take a look at our show sequence and enhance the design with the crowd experience in mind.”

This flyover is the 11th consecutive year, and 12th total, that America’s Ambassadors in Blue – officially known as the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron – will showcase their precise choreography at the end of the National Anthem.
