Sen. Bill Cassidy
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) secured a $5 million appropriation from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to support the Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) headquartered at Barksdale Air Force Base (BAFB) in North Louisiana.
“Our state is proud to be home to the Air Force Global Strike Command. This funding supports our national security strategy and keeps our nation safe by establishing an innovation hub here in Louisiana,” said Dr. Cassidy.
Cassidy requested the $5 million appropriation, with BRF’s support, to expand Global Strike Command’s institutional capacity to develop future operational concepts and capabilities, establish operational requirements, evaluate technology opportunities, build prototype systems, and conduct proof of concept demonstrations.

DARPA’s LongShot drone, Northrop Grumman concept art
WASHINGTON: DARPA plans to flight test a prototype of a novel air-launched drone one designed to launch its own high-speed air-to-air missiles as soon as the first half of 2024.
LongShot is conceived as an autonomous, air-launched uninhabited aerial vehicle (UAV) that can serve as a sort of mothership, launching its own air-to-air missiles once in range of enemy aircraft.
DARPA has tapped General Atomics, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman to provide preliminary designs under Phase 1 of its new LongShot program. LongShot aims to demonstrate a drone that would be launched by fighters or bombers flying at stand-off ranges, autonomously fly into enemy airspace, and then launch its own air-to-air missiles to take down enemy aircraft.
Politics should not determine location for US Space Command Former Sen. (Carolyn Kaster/AP) Space is the next frontier and the most critical domain for near-peer competition with Russia and China. As a former member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and former chairman of the Strategic Forces subcommittee, I believe that the integrated mission of the U.S. Space Command is critical to our future security.

Earlier this month, the Air Force requested information from textile or apparel companies about bomber privacy screens for use during rest room activities.
The request comes as the number of women on bomber crews increases and as the service s bombers, especially the B-52, make high-profile, long-duration flights around the world.
The US Air Force is looking to add privacy curtains to its B-52 Stratofortress bombers as more women join flight crews.
