Shine Your Light - Solstice looks towards brighter days

The artists and team behind Shine Your Light - Solstice on RTÉ on Sunday night have said they want the event to give the country a sense of hope and renewal as it looks to 2021 - and have encouraged people to join in with their own lights from 8:30pm. Months in the planning, the RTÉ-Creative Ireland Programme event is calling on everyone to shine a light for an important, national moment of solidarity, on the eve of the 2020 winter solstice.  Shine Your Light - Solstice brings together a roll-call of Ireland s finest artists to celebrate the winter solstice on RTÉ One, RTÉ Radio 1 and the RTÉ Player. It follows on from the national moments of togetherness that were held in April and August.

Thinkhouse & Algorithm to Deliver RTÉ’s Shine Your Light Spectacular on Sunday December 18, 2020 As part of RTÉ’s #ShineYourLight initiative, which will be broadcast this Sunday, November 20, the Dublin-based marketing communications agency Thinkhouse was commissioned to deliver a series of events around the country as well as six major art installations in Dublin, Kilkenny, Sligo, Waterford, Cork and Clare. Thinkhouse partnered with Algorithm to deliver the special event which is backed by Creative Ireland and RTÉ. The multi-platform event will culminate in a live TV broadcast on RTÉ One and  a radio special on RTÉ Radio 1. Thinkhouse  and Algorithm also collaborated with Coco Productions to creatively direct the show’s opening sequence with a theatrical, innovative lighting performance which forms part of a wider moment of national solidarity on the eve of the 2020 winter solstice.

RTÉ in association with the Creative Ireland Programme is calling on Ireland to shine a light on Sunday, December 20 at 8.30pm to create an important, national moment of solidarity, on the eve of the 2020 winter solstice.  This is the third in a series of national moments of togetherness organised by RTÉ, with millions of people participating by shining a light in their windows, at their doorsteps or within their communities using a candle, lantern, torch or Christmas lights to mark important milestones for the nation.

Both RTÉ Radio and Television will mark this special moment with story, song and poetry.  They is an exploration of identity, modern society and race. It s a safe space for the words of poet Felispeaks and rapper Jafaris to voice a year of when being black became personal, amid the global Black Lives Matter movement.
