Concerns of telecom sector not addressed in Budget: COAI

New Delhi, Feb 2 : The Budget proposals fell short of fulfilling the telecom sector s expectations of a reduction in the burden of levies and some Goods and Services Tax (GST) relief, the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has said. We are a bit disappointed that concerns of the telecom sector, which is the backbone of digital India, remained unaddressed, S.P. Kochhar, Director General, COAI, said in a statement. We were expecting a reduction in the burden of levies, such as LF (Licence Fees) and SUC (spectrum usage charges) on the telecom sector.

New Delhi, Jan 31: The first part of the Budget Session of the Rajya Sabha will conclude on February 13, two days ahead of the original schedule, announced Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu after an all-party meeting on Sunday.

Naidu also made a fervent appeal to the leaders of various parties at an all-party meeting to ensure smooth and effective functioning of the House during the Budget Session.
Leaders of various parties attending the meeting assured that there would be full participation in all the debates and discussions in the House.
Budget 2021: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Budget in Parliament today, at a time when the country is facing a once-in-a-lifetime health crisis. Ms Sitharaman will have the unenviable task of managing the government's battered finances and ensuring a recovery in demand. This year's Budget will be unique as it will be paperless, in a significant break from tradition, due to the Covid 19 pandemic. The finance minister will use a tablet computer to deliver a paperless Budget address. It will be a 'Made in India' tablet computer, according to reports. The speech will be available as a soft copy online.
This could attract more real estate developers to construct Grade A build to lease projects and also rationalise rents, giving a boost to commercial real estate market

President Akufo-Addo has declared 2021 as the “second year of roads”.
Delivering his inaugural speech on Thursday, January 7, 2021, President Nana Akufo-Addo said he will largely focus and prioritize road projects to improve infrastructure this year.
“Our roads are being constructed at a faster pace than before, and yes, there are still many more kilometres to construct. We defined last year as the year of roads. This year will be the second year of roads as we continue with our focus on dealing with the deficits of our road infrastructure.”
He also committed to the development of the railway sector in his second term.
