Prince Philip funeral: Date, time, location, how to watch in Australia and everything else to know Explainer

Prince Philip will be interred in the Royal Vault in St George s Chapel. Can anyone attend the funeral in the UK? Palace officials said the ceremony would be conducted strictly in line with the British government s COVID-19 guidelines, which restrict the number of people attending funerals to 30. They declined to say whether the royal family would be required to wear masks. The palace appealed to the public not to gather in Windsor, and for those who wished to pay their respects to Philips to stay at home instead. Tuesday, 13 April 2021 - 7:53 The Duke of Edinburgh’s Funeral will take place on Saturday 17 April 2021 at 3pm in St George’s Chapel, Windsor. The Funeral Service will begin with a National Minute’s Silence at three o’clock. The service will be preceded by a ceremonial procession inside the grounds of Windsor Castle. The plans for the funeral are in line with The Duke of Edinburgh s own personal wishes, and the occasion will recognise and celebrate The Duke’s life and his more than 70 years of service to The Queen, the UK and the Commonwealth. It will be a Ceremonial Royal Funeral, the same as for Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, rather than a State Funeral – something which is generally reserved for Monarchs. The plans have been approved by The Queen and reflect appropriate Government advice.

ROBERT HARDMAN: Philip s guided tour of his final resting place

But at least we are all able to have a proper look at this charming, little-known royal sanctuary and also to hear about it from the man who designed it the Duke himself.
