Putnam County’s high vaccination rate continues to increase Written by Putnam County
Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell is pleased to announce that, as the county’s high vaccination rate continues to increase, residents will soon be able to gather in larger groups, indoors and out.
“With more than half of Putnam’s eligible residents having received at least one dose of their COVID vaccine, we welcome the loosening of state restrictions and the chance to gather again for social occasions,” County Executive Odell said. “Let’s keep going, Putnam! Our hard work has paid off. Our local case numbers have declined and hospitalizations remain low. The more people who get vaccinated, the sooner we can get life back to normal.”

The DEP owns Lake Gleneida and the surrounding shoreline, which are part of the city s vast reservoir system. I want to thank the DEP for working together with the county to keep Lake Gleneida beautiful, County Executive Odell said. The lake is the centerpiece of the Town of Carmel, and its shoreline is home to our twice-yearly Row of Honor salute to veterans and other celebrations that bring our community together. For those reasons, and the fact that it is part of the New York City watershed, we must all protect Lake Gleneida and treat it with care.

Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell announced that the county’s Police Policy Comprehensive Review has been filed with the state in advance of the April 1 deadline.
“This was a demanding and time-consuming process and I’m very grateful to all who participated,” County Executive Odell said. “While the review was required by the state, it gave us a chance to take an honest look in the mirror and see how we are doing and where policing needs to improve in the county. I want to thank all the stakeholders and the subcommittees that contributed valuable ideas. The work is not done yet, it will be ongoing. We will continue to review police policies with an eye to equity and fairness.”

All New Yorkers 60 years of age and older will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations as of March 10, following a change in state rules. Public-facing government and nonprofit employees and building workers will be added March 17 to the growing list of essential workers who are eligible for the vaccines.
“Our frontline employees who deal with the public every day, are finally able to get the vaccine protection they need,” County Executive Odell said. “We have asked for this for a long time, and I’m very happy the state finally listened.”
