Karen Ann Riegert, 62, who admitted to striking and killing a pedestrian in January on Millville Avenue, was sentenced Tuesday afternoon by Judge Dan Haughey in Butler County Common Pleas Court. She faced a maximum sentence of 15 years.

Butler County grand jury indicts two teens on murder charges

A Butler County grand jury has indicted three teens on murder charges in relation to a fatal shooting of a Middletown woman in January. Elliot Scott Shepherd II, 17, is charged with one count of murder, two counts of aggravated robbery, four counts of felonious assault, and one count of improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation. Timathy Mychael Rhodus, 17, is charged with one count of murder, four counts of felonious assault, and one count of improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation. Karlos Chase Philpot, 18, has been indicted for murder, two counts of aggravated robbery, four counts of felonious assault and improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation.

Fatal shooting in Hamilton found to be 'an act of self-defense'

A grand jury has decided not to issue an indictment in a fatal shooting that happened late last month in Hamilton, Ohio, court documents state.  After reviewing the evidence presented in the case, the grand jury found that "the shooting was an act of self-defense under Ohio law," according to court documents filed in Butler County Common Pleas Court.  Sgt. Rich Burkhardt said police were called to the 400 block of South Seventh Street at 8:07 a.m. on March 29. Burkhardt said police believed two men were arguing, and one shot the other. He said one man was found dead at the scene, according to a previous Enquirer report.
