When you look up the phrase “athlete” in the dictionary, a picture of Syracuse’s Trill Williams should be there. Williams can line up all over the secondary and has the frame and speed to match-up in different roles, as well as contribute from day one on special teams. A physical downhill tackler, the New York product is a big play waiting to happen, but I’ve also really enjoyed his development as an every down talent in both man-and-zone concepts.

The New Orleans Saints traded all four of their Day 3 draft picks in 2020 to move back into the 3rd round of last year s draft. With the 105th overall choice, the Saints selected University of Dayton tight end Adam Trautman. New Orleans made the move with an eye towards the 2021 season. Pro Bowl TE Jared Cook was set to become a free agent after the 2020 campaign, and the plan was to groom the rookie for a starting role.

In 2017, an NFL team that was in need of an upgrade at quarterback was in position to get one in a class that had potential but didn t turn heads. Another team, a playoff contender at that, but one that some would say needed an upgrade at QB, saw a prospect it liked and made a deal with the first team to go get him.
The first team thought the 2018 class was going to have better prospects, so it passed on the 2017 class. That team, in evaluating the 2018 class, narrowed its search down to a prospect that some had their doubts about. That team made a couple of moves to eventually land that prospect.

After free agency, and just after the NFL draft closes up shop on May 1, there’s one more way teams can solidify their rosters: The decision to exercise the fifth-year option on first-round draft picks from four years before. The decisions have to be made before May 3, and if the team declines the option on the player, that player becomes a free agent a year earlier, unless a longer-term deal happens.
At this time, none of the first-rounders in the 2018 class have signed second contracts; that’s more likely to happen in the 2022 league year. Teams have those players on relatively cheap deals based on slotted contracts; even 2018 first-overall pick Baker Mayfield will make just $920,000 in base salary, and a $4,936,770 roster bonus. His prorated bonus of $5,462,360 will also count against the 2021 cap, so Mayfield represents a 2021 cap hit o
