Orthodox Jewish activists concerned by rising antisemitic hate crimes held meetings with law-enforcement officials Wednesday, to express concern and seek assurances about the community’s safety.
“We are committed, and we are going to do everything possible to be there for you,” said NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea. “It is unconscionable that anyone should fear, in this day and age, walking down the street, and being afraid to go to a shul … and we are not going to stand for it.”

Jewish community leaders from Agudath Israel of America met with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for 90 minutes Friday afternoon, May 21
st, in a hastily called meeting to discuss the spate of hate crimes erupting against Jews in highly-populated Jewish areas of New York City. Safety and security of identifiable Jews in the Satmar and Lubavitch communities were the focus of the meeting.
A bill working its way through the Legislature would take another shot at restricting when schools could teach sex ed and would require parents to opt their kids into those classes, rather than allowing them to opt out.

In the aftermath of several distressing acts of anti-Semitic hate crimes in Brooklyn over the past few days, Chief of Department Rodney Harrison met on Sunday morning with Flatbush Shomrim, the Flatbush Jewish Community Coalition (FJCC), and local community leaders to hear their concerns and allay their fears.
After meeting with the representatives of the Flatbush community, Chief Harrison went with them on a walking tour of the neighborhood, where he dropped in on several stores to hear the concerns and fears of the residents and business owners.
