After last year’s BMF was sadly cut short due to COVID-19, news that the 3056 mainstay would be back in 2021 was met by punters with open arms. Now, the program for this year’s festival has arrived at last and it is a knock-out.

Since early January, the Sidney Myer Music Bowl has been playing host to many of the best live acts in Australia. The Live at the Bowl series was conceived in partnership by Arts Centre Melbourne and the Victorian government and they’re rolling out another bumper selection of live music and comedy throughout the month of February.
Whether it’s dirty pub rock, heartfelt storytelling, gospel, Afro-fusion or stand-up comedy you’re looking for, February’s Live at the Bowl program has something for all tastes. The series has already made life in Melbourne feel a lot more normal and the six gigs detailed below are further proof that this city can be gloriously bountiful when a pandemic isn’t getting in the way.

Across four weeks in February, Happy Mondays will see the Sidney Myer Music Bowl come alive with local legends, in the spirit of a residency, celebrating this special city’s live music scene. Each Monday, two iconic Melbourne venues will come together to present an evening’s program, celebrating the unique nuance of the city’s cultural fabric.
Monday February 1 kicks off the program with an evening of Aussie punk rock fun. On the bill are Cash Savage & The Last Drinks presented by local favourites The Old Bar, coupled with The Meanies, presented by Collingwood’s rock cauldron The Tote.

Melbourne Music Week has been a whole lot different in 2020/21 compared to past years. Extending across three months, the festival has played an important part in reviving a live music scene previously debilitated by the pandemic.
