DTI to consumers: Buy only DTI-certified sanitary wares

CABARROGUIS, Quirino, May 25 (PIA) The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here has reminded the public to buy only certified sanitary wares for their home construction or renovation amidst the ongoing summer sale of several home depots.
In a press release issued by DTI, Provincial Director Ma. Sofia G. Narag stated that DTI thru the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) regulates sanitary wares such as water closets, urinals, lavatories, and bidets, whether locally manufactured or imported, to ensure the quality of said products being sold in the local market.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has amended existing guidelines to include all pre-painted galvanized steel coils and sheets for roofing to ensure safety and quality standards in the country.
Through the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) issued Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 21-13, series of 2021, the DTI tightens the guidelines for the implementation of Department Administrative Order (DAO) 20-10, series of 2020 or the technical regulation for hot-dip metallic-coated and pre-painted galvanized steel coils and sheets for roofing and general applications. The said MC took effect on 18 April 2021 immediately after its publication.

The Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) expressed its strong support to gradually phase out mercury-containing products in order to protect human health and the environment.
The DTI-BPS and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) recently discussed the revised Chemical Control Order for mercury and mercury compounds in line with the implementation of the National Action Plan for the Minamata Convention on Mercury.
The DENR-EMB provided the DTI-BPS an overview of the DENR Administrative Order No. 2019-20 or the “Revised Chemical Control Order (CCO) for Mercury and Mercury Compounds (Revising DAO 1997-38)”, which incorporated the applicable provisions stated in the Minamata Convention.
