Introduction
In this keynote, I will touch on several critical issues that impinge not only on the historical location of Ogun State and her development achievements, but also on her fundamental role as an economic corridor in the redefinition of governance in Nigeria. I will further characterize the governance insights to be derived from Governor Abiodun’s leadership style, and then draw significant lessons that could aid future possibilities.
In the 2018 Human Development Index (HDI), Ogun State was second on the list, with a medium human development status of 0.662, behind Lagos State with 0.673. This is a very significant jump from a 2016 where Ogun State was placed a distant eight position (0.549). This figure alone tells several significant stories. First, it signals the fundamental significance of continuity in government. Hopes of the Federal Government raising tangible earnings from the sale of some national assets towards financing the N13.5 trillion 2021 budget may be far from reality, going by the value of the assets, already described as liabilities and dead.
With a deficit of N6.1 trillion in the 2020 budget and possibilities of a higher value beyond the estimated N5.2 trillion by the end of 2021, if earnings do not improve, getting assets sold or concessioned without valuation may further weaken prospects of better earnings from such assets.

As economic recession continue to bite harder and inflation skyrocketing, Transparency International, TI, Thursday, disclosed that Nigeria ranked 149 on Corruption Perception Index 2020 out of 183 countries.
This was contained in a publication by the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, and made available to Vanguard, which indicated that Nigeria again recorded a decline in the CPI in 2020.
According to the jointly signed report by CISLAC/TI Nigeria, Centre for Democracy and Development CDD, and BudgIT, Nigeria scored 25 out of 100 points in the 2020 CPI, falling back by one point compared to last year.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered accelerated hearing in the suit challenging the federal government for appointing a consultant for the monitoring and implementation of the $300 million allegedly looted by the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, which was repatriated to Nigeria through a tripartite agreement between United States of America and Bailiwick of Jersey.
Besides, the court has charged parties to the suit to take into consideration the fact that they have subjected themselves to the jurisdiction of the court and should not do anything that would destroy the res (subject matter of litigation) before the court.
