Walmart announced it will raise wages for 425,000 store associates serving in “frontline” roles after the company reported record fourth-quarter revenue.
Walmart will increase starting wages to between $13 and $19 per hour depending on store location and market, according to a letter Walmart President and CEO John Furner sent to employees nationwide Thursday morning. The pay raises will begin on March 13 and apply to the company’s 425,000 store associates.
“Today, I’m happy to share an investment in the people who are central to making that happen,” Furner wrote in the letter.
“Whatever your role, know that we’ll continue to support and invest in you,” he continued.

Key Findings
The U.S. joined many other developed nations in adopting territorial provisions and anti-base erosion rules as part of the 2017 tax reform.
One major piece of that reform, that is not typical in other territorial systems, is a new definition of currently taxable foreign earnings, Global Intangible Low Tax Income (GILTI), which is taxed at an effective rate of 13.125 percent, with the rate set to increase after 2025 to 16.4 percent.
Recent research has shown that foreign earnings of U.S. companies remain taxed at similar rates even after the 2017 reforms, implying that while the structure of U.S. taxes on foreign earnings changed, the overall burden did not.

Outdoor enthusiasts who have set out to traverse front country trails in Montecito recently might have noticed new sights during their journey.
During the past few months, the nonprofit Montecito Trails Foundation added three trailhead kiosks, additional directional signage and electric bike signage. Three glass kiosks with color-coded trail maps to provide general routes and distances are located at the trailheads of Romero Canyon, San Ysidro and Hot Springs.
