For the past decade, Syria has been ravaged by violent armed conflict. The civil war has displaced 6.2 million people internally with 6.6 million seeking asylum abroad. The international and local aid communities have mobilized assistance for the 13 million Syrians in need an 18 percent increase from last year yet without a political solution to hostilities, the humanitarian crisis will persist.
The CSIS Humanitarian Agenda will be joined by Alex Mahoney, Syria Response Director of USAID s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance, and series contributors Basma Alloush, Policy and Advocacy Advisor of the Norwegian Refugee Council, Amany Qaddour, Regional Director of Syria Relief and Development, and Mais Balkhi, Program Manager of Humanitarian Practice at InterAction, to discuss the future of humanitarian response in Syria.
