LaRose touts new businesses, election turnout during visit

ZANESVILL - Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose visited with local business owners on Thursday, to celebrate the success of the 2020 election and note the fact that the state saw a record number new businesses founded despite the pandemic.
The Ohio Secretary of State s Office does two things, LaRose said. We help people vote, and we help people start businesses. Last year we did record numbers of both.
The state had record turnout for the 2020 presidential election, and ended the year with 171,000 new businesses registered.
As the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread, LaRose said the one certainty as the year progressed was that there would be an uncertain business environment. We would have thought new business formations would drop off precipitously, he said.

A bill that would put changes and restrictions on Ohio laws related to early voting, ballot drop boxes and other election laws has finally been introduced, after weeks of speculation.

While Republicans say Ohio s voting laws are already good and this will improve them, Democrats say it will lead to voter suppression.
The bill from Rep. Bill Seitz (R-Cincinnati) would limit counties to one ballot drop box for 10 days before the election and cut off absentee ballot requests 10 days before. It would also require two forms of ID to request an absentee ballot in an online request process, and would eliminate in-person voting the day before the election, though those hours could be reallocated to other days.
