Jan. 17 A third Stafford Creek Corrections Center inmate has died from COVID-19, the state Department of Corrections announced Sunday. The inmate contracted the virus at the Aberdeen-based corrections center, but died at an area health care facility on Saturday. Since Jan. 15, Stafford Creek has had 661 COVID-19 cases in the last 30 days and 1,035 to date, according to a DOC bulletin released .

A second employee with the Washington State Department of Corrections has died of COVID-19.Â
According to DOC, Correctional Officer David Christensen of the Stafford Creek Corrections Center in Aberdeen passed away on Tuesday. He was 62.Â
Christensen first worked for DOC from 2015-2017 and rejoined the department in May of 2020.Â
âIt is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of Correctional Officer David Christensen due to COVID-19, said Secretary of Corrections Stephen Sinclair, Our hearts go out to Officer Christensenâs grieving family and honor the sacrifice they have made.â
The Department will review Officer Christensenâs death as a possible line of duty death.
