Voters in the Slater-Marietta Fire District approved a $3 million general obligation bond issue Thursday.
According to unofficial results provided via email by Greenville County elections chief Conway Belangia, 65 voters cast ballots in favor of the bond issue, compared to 29 who opposed it.
Only 2.4% of the district s 3,897 registered voters took part in Thursday s referendum.
About $1.5 million of the bond proceeds will be spent to build a new fire station near Pleasant Ridge County Park on State 11, according to District Fire Chief Adam Brown. An additional $200,000 will be used to fix a leaky roof and basement in the district headquarters and to add sleeping quarters to the district fire station on State 414.
