Govt moves to rein in willful defaulters
Decides in principle to amend the banking companies act
The government, for the first time, has moved to define habitual defaulters, a development that may stop delinquent borrowers from running businesses, travelling abroad, and participating in social and political activities.
As part of the move, the government yesterday decided in principal to amend the banking companies act at a virtual cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to the draft law, an individual will be considered a willful defaulter if he or she does not repay a loan, taken under their individual name or for their company, to banks despite being able to pay it back.

The Ease of Doing Business (EODB) is an index created by the World Bank Group experts to measure a country s status in terms of starting and operating a business. The index is considered as a universally accepted comparative benchmark of the business environment globally. The rankings are determined by sorting the aggregate scores on 10 topics, each consisting of several indicators, giving equal weight to each topic. The regulatory environment is more conducive to the starting and operation of a local business firm to be a high ease of doing business ranking. It applies to business enterprises, providing quantitative indicators on regulation including starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts, resolving insolvency.

Eight more fall victim to corona in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: Eight more COVID-19 patients died in Faisalabad on Thursday. According to a spokesperson for the health department, the COVID-19 death toll rose to 635 in the district and 198 people tested positive for coronavirus during the last 24 hours.
He said 1,266 coronavirus tests were conducted in public and private hospitals during the same period.
He said so far 10,156 patients had recovered from the disease while total active cases in Faisalabad reached upto 2,428.
At present, 131 patients, including 53 confirmed ones, were under treatment at the Allied Hospital while 45, including 13 confirmed, were admitted to DHQ hospital and 1,322 patients are quarantined at their homes.
