If you’re pregnant, you’ve probably been thinking a lot about your labour and delivery. And you’ve probably read a bunch about surviving the
first few months with your little one. But what about those first 12 to 24 hours after birth? What happens then? (Note: The following applies to babies born with no major health concerns, at the hospital.)
You’ll likely be moved from the delivery room to a room on the maternity ward, where you’ll spend the first day and night of baby’s life.

When Melissa Romain had her first baby at a Toronto hospital in 2016, the nurses demonstrated how to swaddle him and encouraged her to continue doing it at home. But by the time she
had her second baby four years later, things had changed. The nurses swaddled her baby the whole time they were on the maternity ward; then, as she was being discharged, they told her she shouldn’t swaddle at home because it was too dangerous. They said this was because the baby was under closer supervision in the hospital, but Romain says there was plenty of time that she and her baby were alone together in her room. “I was confused and a little frustrated,” says Romain. “Nobody explained why swaddling is no longer a best practice. They just said that this is how it is now.”

The final details of the lockdown â including how long it will last and what it means for schools â will be discussed at a cabinet meeting Monday morning, but the broad strokes have been laid out in a proposal put forward for ministers to consider.

The two weeks to flatten the curve became months that have not ended, so is it any surprise that the four-week lockdown for Toronto and Peel has been extended?

We didn’t have to wait for the case numbers over the past several weeks, plenty of us knew it would never be just a four-week lockdown when it was announced Nov. 20. On Friday afternoon, Premier Doug Ford announced that Toronto and Peel would have their lockdowns extended.
“We’re going to continue on with the lockdowns within those regions and we’ll have additional information on Monday for the balance of the province,” Ford said before an emergency call with hospital executives.
