William Fitzgerald, led a successful effort to enact America’s first and only National Apprenticeship Act. After being signed into law by President Franklin Roosevelt, the Fitzgerald Act, as it is still known today, went on to buoy our nation through war and peace, boosting America’s economy and workforce by way of its Registered Apprenticeship system. Fitzgerald was uniquely suited to spearhead this law. He started working in a Connecticut foundry as a teen and rose from the factory floor to the foreman’s office, then to commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Labor, mayor of Norwich, and member of Congress. LCS partners with TalentGro to offer registered apprenticeships at care facilities Wednesday, January 13, 2021 11:03 AM Two Iowa senior living communities managed by Des Moines-based LCS Corp. are using a state grant to fund registered apprenticeship programs for training health care and culinary workers. The program is one of 46 across the state that in November received a Coronavirus Relief Earn and Learn Grant, designed to create job training opportunities for Iowans affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids and Green Hills in Ames are working with TalentGro, the workforce division of Tennessee-based employment firm Hamilton-Ryker. The program provides on-the-job training and curriculum for related technical instruction. Labor and Economic Opportunity Over $11 million available to fund local apprenticeships in underrepresented populations Proposals due to Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity by Feb. 1 December 18, 2020 LANSING, Mich. The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) released a competitive Request for Proposals to fund registered apprenticeship expansion across the state. More than $11 million is available to fund grant awards to groups of statewide and/or local partners who will work as Regional Implementation Consortia to expand registered apprenticeship opportunities.  Funds provided by the grant awards will help reimburse Registered Apprenticeship Program costs, including on-the-job learning and related technical instruction. The Consortia will lead expansion activities to accelerate the growth of more than 6,000 apprentices with a focus on underrepresented populations, including youth and veterans in high-skill, high-wage, high-demand careers
