Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain Friday said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government stands by the weaker sections of the society against the powerful people.
“If our prime minister cannot stand by weaker Pakistanis, then we have no right to remain in power,” he said while addressing a joint press conference along with Minister for Commerce Razaq Daud. He defended the prime minister’s public criticism of Pakistan’s ambassadors, saying he stands with the working class and not the elite. “I am surprised at the PML-N for criticising the prime minister’s speech to ambassadors,” he said.

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said on Friday that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government will stand by the weaker sections of the society against the powerful people.
“If our Prime Minister cannot stand by weaker Pakistanis then we have no right to remain in power,” he said at a joint press conference along with Razak Dawood, the Minister for Commerce.
The Minister said the powerful section of the society had to realize that the weaker section was their responsibility. He added that he was surprised on the reaction of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leadership over prime minister’s remarks.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has said that welfare of journalists and media workers is the government’s top priority and houses will be reserved for 600 journalists from Islamabad region.
The information minister said this during a meeting with Chairman Naya Pakistan Housing Development Authority Lt General (retd) Anwar Ali on Monday. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib was also present on the occasion. Matters pertaining to inclusion of journalists in the Prime Minister’s Housing programme were discussed in the meeting.

The RADIO TELEVISION DIGITAL NEWS ASSOCIATION s annual newsroom survey, now conducted with the NEWHOUSE SCHOOL OF PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS at SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY, included questions on media safety, and the alarming results included that 1 in 5 television news directors reported that employees had been attacked, while 86% of news directors changed their stations newsroom procedures to protect employees, including the purchase of bullet-proof vests and gas masks and sending security teams with reporters.

Representative Eric Swalwell first introduced the Journalist Protection Act (JPA) to Congress in 2018. This important piece of legislation would make it a federal crime to intentionally intimidate or cause bodily harm to a journalist or media organization in the course of newsgathering or reporting. It would also allow the Justice Department to prosecute those who intimidate or assault journalists when local prosecutors decline to do so.
In 2018, Rep. Swalwell cited continued threats and violence against the media as grounds for passage of this legislation. Unfortunately, at the time JPA didn’t gain much support from members of the 115th Congress and it was promptly swept off the floor of the House.
