Still, Buffalo is rolling. They have won six straight games, by a total combined score of 229-110. Even in Week 17, when they pulled their starters about halfway through the game, they managed to 50-burger a Dolphins team that was playing for the playoff lives. The Bills should continue to ride that momentum into the postseason.
From an Eagles perspective, this is a very interesting game to watch, in that the Colts are the team that makes the most sense as a potential Carson Wentz landing spot this offseason. If they are bounced in the first round as a result of poor quarterback play, the Eagles will have a better chance of maximizing their return for Wentz.
There have also been the rumors, specifically the ones surrounding quarterback Carson Wentz. We already know that Doug Pederson and Howie Roseman will be back, while Jim Schwartz will reportedly take a year off in 2021. But what about the guy getting paid to be the team s franchise quarterback? Well, that depends who you ask.
On Monday, during a 30-minute year-end session with the media, Howie Roseman was asked several questions about Wentz s future in Philly and after avoiding an answer the first time, the Eagles GM admitted that trading Wentz isn t something they are discussing. That is not anything we are talking about right now, said Roseman, who also oddly compared the prospect of losing Wentz to losing a finger on your hand. We are talking about a guy that s immensely talented, has a great work ethic and doing whatever we can to put him in the best possible situation to be successful.
Well, as it turns out, there s actually a way Wentz and the Eagles could make it work, and potentially lower the quarterbacks dead cap hit by $20 million dollars. But it wouldn t necessarily be easy, as it would require Wentz handing the Birds a check for $20 million dollars. Yes, you read that right, Wentz would have to pay the Eagles just for the right to move on and he would have to pay that money back before he d have any way of knowing if he was ever going to see it again.
A few weeks back, our own Jimmy Kempski broke down all of the Eagles options with Wentz, and this didn t even register as an option probably because it s an absolutely absurd idea.
New Year s resolution: Choose a quarterback
The Eagles tried to have their cake and eat it too by selecting intriguing prospect Jalen Hurts in the second round while already committed to Carson Wentz. The controversy that ensued proved exactly why you don t do that. While keeping both on the roster might be the most appealing financially and from a flexibility standpoint, doing so would put Philadelphia on a path leading to the exact spot it is in now. Pick a quarterback, move forward and learn from your mistakes.
#JimmySays: I agree that it has to be one guy or the other going forward, and the more likely scenario is that Wentz will get traded.
