Derek Chauvin conviction: Darnella Frazier, 17-year-old who filmed murder of George Floyd, praised for ‘changing the world’
Updated 3:35 PM;
Darnella Frazier, who at 17 years old witnessed and filmed Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin murder George Floyd, was praised as a hero by observers, activists, celebrities and journalists after a jury delivered a guilty verdict for the since-fired cop on Tuesday.
Chauvin, a white man, pinned Floyd, who was Black, to the ground with his knee for about 9 minutes as other officers, charged with aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter, did not intervene. Many observers argued Chauvin may have gotten off had it not been for Frazier’s cellphone video, which captured Floyd’s cries that he “can’t breathe” and showed Chauvin maintaining the knee-hold even after Floyd became unresponsive.
