Even as India takes on the second wave of Covid-19, the armed forces have plunged into action in different parts of the country to strengthen the battle against the pandemic. Hereâs a look at how our army, navy and air force are pitching in to help the nation survive this global crisis.
Earlier this week, the Indian Army established an exclusive Covid management cell under a Director General rank officer. This cell will report directly to the Vice Chief of Army Staff and is tasked with enhancing efficiency in coordinating real time responses to the steep rise in Covid cases across the country.

New Delhi [India], May 8 (ANI): The Indian Air Force (IAF) continues its efforts towards COVID-19 relief as its IL-76 aircraft airlifted three cryogenic oxygen containers from Singapore and landed at Panagarh Air base, West Bengal on Friday, according to an official statement.
An IAF C-17 is also bringing three cryogenic oxygen containers and three pallets of respirators from Israel to Hindan Air base in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
In India, C-17s airlifted six cryogenic oxygen containers from Hyderabad to Bhubaneswar and three from Chandigarh to Ranchi.

The first Indian Navy warship carrying 54 tonnes of liquid oxygen docked at the New Mangalore port on Thursday.
In all, there are nine warships sailing across the world carrying Covid-related equipment.
Indian Naval Ship Talwar entered the port of New Mangalore in Karnataka on, it carried in two tons liquid oxygen tanks from Bahrain. INS Kolkata, is deployed in Persian Gulf, it departed Kuwait on Thursday after embarking 27 tonne oxygen tanks, 400 Oxygen cylinders and 47 concentrators. In addition, four other warships are also enroute Qatar and Kuwait, to embark around nine 27-tonnne oxygen tanks and more than 1,500 oxygen cylinders from these countries.

As per latest reports, select military hospitals will make 10 to 15 per cent of their designated Covid-19 beds available to the civilian population in cases of specific referrals from the local administration for treating COVID patients. The select facilities will be among the 50 Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) hospitals that have been allowed to treat civilians, subject to availability of beds and other conditions.
Indian Army today announced to open all its Military Hospitals for the civilians for Covid treatment. The medical staff of the Army is being made available to various State Governments and the Indian Army is setting up temporary Hospitals in various parts of the country.
