Some sheriffs in Florida and across the country penned a letter to the White House Wednesday urging President Joseph R. Biden to reverse his administration’s “reckless and irresponsible” immigration policies.
Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers joined four Florida sheriffs and nearly 300 other sheriffs in 37 states urging the White House to stop the increasing flow of migrants at the southern border.
“In a myriad of ways,” the April 7 letter stated, “you and your administration are encouraging and sanctioning lawlessness and the victimization of the people of the United States of America, all in the name of mass illegal immigration.”

Sheriffs from multiple states, including Florida, on Wednesday sent a letter to the White House asking the federal government to stop what they call unchecked illegal immigration.
Among the Florida sheriffs who included their names on the letter were Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers.
The letter, titled Help America s Sheriffs Keep Our Neighborhoods and Communities Safe By Halting Illegal Immigration, said the immigration crisis at the Mexico border is impacting the safety of Americans and penetrating our neighborhoods.
The bills would set new rules on gun laws, emergency orders and clean energy.
Florida lawmakers advanced a suite of proposed bills that would limit local authority when it comes to guns; emergency orders during hurricanes, disasters or pandemics; and efforts to require clean energy to deal with climate change.
Falling along party lines, the measure would make it more difficult for local jurisdictions to adopt measures that defy the Republican-controlled state.
“We have seen not only throughout the country, but throughout our state, different iterations of executive orders dealing with the removal of freedom, rights,” said Sen. Manny Diaz Jr., a Hialeah Republican, in introducing a bill to limit local emergency orders.
For Protecting the Palm Beaches, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw says he understands that the governor is doing the best he can, but most of his deputies on the road and in the jails are well under the age of 50.
