As the coronavirus continues to surge, there are still too many nightspots and other businesses around the state thumbing their noses at pandemic safety rules.
Given Florida’s weak record on addressing the virus statewide, the burden falls on local governments to combat the spread of the virus. That means cranking up complaint lines, curfews, fines and other government actions to spur COVID safety.
This all might seem unfair to the vast majority of business owners who have followed the rules, even as the pandemic continues to rob them of loyal customers, capable staff, and, in some cases, their very livelihoods. Our ire is directed at a much smaller number of scofflaws, those that local governments must rein in to save lives.
