Information was conveyed to a team comprising of Johannesburg Flying Squad, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, and Fidelity Specialised Services. The cooperative strategy paid off, as police were able to intercept a vehicle being used by the suspect – sure enough, they went on to find the tusks in the back of the car.

The police arrested six suspects linked to the torching of a truck on the N3 highway in Ekurhuleni on Monday.
It is alleged the group petrol-bombed the truck at approximately 05:15 near Leondale.
The group then allegedly attacked two other trucks, but only took the keys, leaving the trucks in the middle of the road.

The Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate s Court on Friday sentenced three Rand West Municipality employees to a combined 31 years for stealing R3.5 million from a workers savings scheme.
According to the National Prosecutions Authority, 47-year-old Jacky Tshabalala and two women - Letitia Mafuta, 51 and Anna Mdangane, 47 - had faced 16 counts of theft of R3.5 million between 2017 and 2018.
Tshabalala, who was employed in the payroll department and had direct access to the funds, was sentenced to 15 years. Mafuta and Mdangane were both sentenced to eight years, half of which was suspended for five years, on condition that they do not commit the same offence during the period of suspension, NPA regional spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said in a statement.

An investigation will be launched into allegations the victim’s mother was turned away by police.
One man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a woman, who was burnt to death. An investigation has also been launched into allegations that her family was turned away by police when they went to report the incident.
The 21-year-old victim succumbed to her severe burn wounds after spending two weeks in ICU. Her 14-month-old son is battling for his life in hospital after sustaining serious burn wounds. The two were allegedly doused with paraffin and set alight by a man, believed to be the victim’s boyfriend, on 4 April.

Hlakudi, a former Eskom senior manager for capital contracts, is facing 44 counts of tax fraud-related charges.
He is also also set to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate s Court on 1 June in a R745 million corruption case related to Eskom s Kusile Power Station.
Hlakudi resigned from Eskom in November 2017.
