After defending Bishop Israel Makamu in the latest episode of their show Moja Loveâs âAmabishopâ, panellists, pastor Joshua Maponga III and pastor Enoch Phiri, have addressed the backlash they received.
Bishop Makamu has been charged with sexual assault by a former member of his church.

r Moja Love aired an episode of the talk show in which Bishop Makamu was given the platform to share his version of events.
Pastor Maponga took to Twitter to apologise for seemingly defending his colleague, saying that his comments displayed an ignorance of the plight of South African women against gender-based violence (GBV) and other types of abuse.
He was released on R2 000 bail by the Palm Ridge Magistrate s Court.
It is alleged that the incident happened in 2018 and that the victim was a former employee at Makamu s church.
Popular TV presenter Bishop Israel Makamu, who has been charged with sexual assault, was released on R2 000 bail by the Palm Ridge Magistrate s Court.
Makamu, who briefly appeared in court on Wednesday, was charged after a former employee of his church laid a complaint of sexual assault on 19 May 2021 at the Brackendowns SAPS, said regional National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane.
She said the case related to an incident that allegedly happened in his church office in Alrode during September 2018.

Cape Town – Bishop Israel Makamu was released on R2 000 bail today following a brief appearance on a charge of sexual assault at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
Makamu, the founder of Endless Hope Bible Church in Alberton, was arrested earlier today after a former employee of his church laid a complaint of sexual assault on May 19 at the Brackendowns police station, the Hawks said in a statement.
The case relates to an incident that allegedly happened in his church office in Alrode during September 2020.
The case was remanded to July 13 for further investigation.
